Updating A Family Home: Sunroom Addition
In the installment of our blog series Updating A Family Home, we will be looking at the newest addition to this home – the Sunroom. The homeowners added this room just off the Breakfast Area to overlook the newly updated pool area.
The room was encased by three walls of windows. This allows lots of natural light into the rest of the home. The homeowners envisioned enjoying coffee in the mornings and reading the newspaper in the evenings in this wonderful space.
We decided not to extend the hardwood flooring as this room is off the pool. Installing slate tile repeated the slate used in the Kitchen backsplash. However, the ceiling of the pitched roof was encased in gorgeous hardwood planks. We used a dark fan to complement the dark fixtures in the adjacent spaces.
The new sunroom had windows on all three walls. Therefore, we painted the remaining wall areas a rich gold color to blend with the wood molding and not detract from the incredible view.
For furnishings we paired two cane chairs and ottomans with cushions in a fun, vibrant pattern with a round copper table. The table had a shelf for books and magazines.
On the opposite wall, we placed a small open bookcase and accessorized it with unique florals, old books and decorative accents. Finally for lighting, we hung wall sconces and added a decorative lamp to the copper table.
This is truly a space the homeowners will enjoy for years to come and a wonderful addition to their fabulous home. Enjoy!
