2014 Trends: Finishes & Fabrics
2014 Trends. The next segment in our blog series Trending for 2014 concerns what’s in for finishes and fabrics in 2014.
It’s been rumored for a couple of years, but it’s finally true – gold is definitely back. I love gold…brass, not so much. Gold has a depth you just can’t find in a nickel finish. With that said, I love mixing these two metals in the same space. Metals add interest and the more, the merrier…brass, not so much.
Medium Wood Tones
Popular woods are medium in tone..think fruitwood or honey in color. Natural woods would be oak or walnut. Every space needs grounding. I like using furnishings in these tones because they add richness to a space without overpowering it like mahogany or cherry tends to.
Large Floral Prints
Large print florals are in. They differ from florals of old in that the background is white. This negative space really highlights the pattern.
Corduroy and velvets are hot for upholstery fabric. Corduroy is a more casual fabric where velvet can feel formal – depending on the color you choose. Both have lots of texture and interest.
Cowhides have come off the floor and are now on your furniture. Cowhide chairs were everywhere during the High Point Fall Market. You have to admit – this chair makes quite a statement!
