Louisville Nests: A Room Grows Up!
One of my favorite clients just turned 12, and her room has grown up with her.
The inspiration for every room’s color scheme has to come from somewhere, and this almost teen bedroom’s inspiration came from turquoise and lavender tissue paper that was in a gift bag my client received. She loved the color combination so that was our starting point- the Bedroom and Sitting Area were painted shades of the lavender color, and the Bathroom was painted turquoise. We added a pop of coral as an accent, and the room’s color scheme was born.
Although there is a lot of square footage in the space, the rooms are choppy with lots of door openings, and furniture placement has always been an issue. We chose to place the bed in front of the window so a wrought iron bed frame was a great option to keep the space feeling open.
We added a round pedestal table and a bookcase as nightstands along with a vanity in a mirrored finish. The sitting area was transformed into a dressing room and added an antique dresser painted in the coral accent color.
When you use a strong color scheme, it is important to offset it with lots of white. It is also important to break up the color with wall decor. My favorite is my client’s interpretation of a monogram – oversized, hand-painted initials.
The space feels sophisticated yet fun – it really captures my client’s personality! Enjoy!
