Rooms Done Right: Basement
We just had to share this Basement Design with you because it was definitely Done Right! I wish I could take credit for the layout and finishes, but I was called in late in the game. This wonderful homeowner worked with Mike Sanders Builders (one of my favorites!) to make the walkout Basement of her son’s family’s house truly her home.
Her home consists of a Living Area, Kitchen, Breakfast Area, Master Bedroom & Ensuite Bath, 2 Guest Bedrooms, a Guest Bath, and a Mudroom/Laundry Area. There are two entrances via french doors to allow in maximum light – one through the Laundry Area and one directly into the Living Area. There are floor to ceiling windows in the Breakfast Area that also flood the space with light. All the finishes are kept light for an airy, open feel.
I was asked to help pulled together all of the wonderful pieces the homeowner brought with her from previous homes. I knew we were going to have lots of fun when I saw her sofa and leather chair & ottoman – what a great color combination! We made the beautiful sideboard the focal point. Her secretary fits nicely on the wall leading into the Master Bedroom.
We reupholstered her rocker to further solidify the color scheme.
Kitchen & Breakfast Area
In the Kitchen and Breakfast Area, we pared down the accessories for a clean, uncluttered feel, and added cornice boards and cellular shades to not only further the color scheme, but help with late afternoon sun control.
Although the Master Bedroom has no windows, the airy mint color on the walls makes the room feel well lit. This gorgeous toile ensemble replaced their old bedding. The adorable rocking horse has the place of honor at the foot of the bed.
This home truly reflects the homeowner’s sophisticated sense of style. When you are in the space, you do not realize you are in a Basement. That is a Room Done Right! Enjoy!
