Homearama 2016: Great Room
We are so excited to show you the next space on our tour of Homearama 2016: Great Room!
First and foremost, this room has a welcoming limestone fireplace with large wooden shelving expanding towards its 14’ ceilings. There was much discussion about what to dress the fireplace with, but our homeowners fell in love with this classic limestone and then it was settled.
Next, we incorporated thick rustic shelves flanking the fireplace which were actually planed from a fallen tree on the homeowners’ previous property.
Then for the main seating, the homeowners wanted to incorporate a big leather sofa. We found this warm brown one – a classic that will forever go with the natural wood in the space.
Open Floor Plan
This house has great floor plan – it is an open one, centered off of the main Hallway that runs the length of the house. For this reason, each of our spaces to truly flow into the next. For this Homearama 2016: Great Room, we chose Argos by Sherwin Williams (SW7065) for the walls. This color is a gray with blue undertones and casts the perfect backdrop for our color palette.
The fun leopard print chairs and range of blue toned accessories throughout the space pick up the blue undertones from the walls. Pops of orange pull from the warm sofa leather. The color repeats in the accessories on the bookshelves, couch pillows, and in the rust colored throw blanket. Possibly the coolest ottoman ever is also a mix of our two complementary colors, orange and blue. This ottoman has dual functionality – comfy for your feet and stable for your glass!
A mix of materials were used to fill out the color palette with some texture. For example, a set of natural colored ceramic table lamps were chosen with the multi-toned metal side table which pops rusty and blue tones.
This sleek, contemporary firebox is a nice juxtaposition with the classic limestone the homeowners chose.
Close up on this scoop bowl filled with a couple different sizes of carved wooden balls with whitewashed blues and browns – stunning!
As we mentioned in previous posts, we love the way the light hits off these hand-scrapped chain-whipped hickory floors.
Lots of Natural Light
Looking into the Study, you can see the beauty of those barn doors from the light reflecting through the full wall of windows leading to the Front Porch. This home allows a ton of natural light to come in with its tall windows, doors, and ceilings.
Accent Piece with a Punch
For final touches, we added this lacquered orange side table with great details in gold. Then, we topped it with a fabulous lamp with tons of detail and bling!
