Homearama 2016: Sophisticated Teen’s Bedroom

The next stop for our tour of Homearama 2016: Sophisticated Teen’s Bedroom. I am not a fan of themed bedrooms; however, I am a fan of repeating elements within a room to evoke a feeling or a memory. Since this was Homearama, our homeowners did give us some latitude in how we decorated the guest rooms. For this particular room, I used my own two daughters’ love of London and Paris as my inspiration.

We painted the walls Sherwin Williams’s Rain (SW6219) and randomly placed stencils of vintage passport stamps in a pewter finish throughout the room. We pulled our accent colors out of this vibrant triptych of a Paris street scene.

For our bed, we started with a linen slipcovered headboard in a gray color. We made the bed with white bedding with a gray stripe detail and finished it off with an accent pillow to support our color scheme. We finished off the end of the bed with a tufted bench in a gray fabric and steel frame. No footboard on your bed? No problem…a bench is a great way to complete your bed and incorporate seating into a small bedroom.

We had fun accessorizing the bench with travel books, a vase of white tulips, and of course, Union Jack pillows. Besides the bed and bench, the only other furniture piece in the room is this fabulous orange dresser which does double duty as a nightstand. The white ceramic lamp and FDL plate really pop off the blue wall and orange dresser. We added a pair of European scene artwork capped off with a tin Underground sign.

The 10 foot ceiling could certainly accommodate this incredible oversized mercury glass pendant. We positioned it so it was visible from the outside through the small upper window.

For the window treatment, we kept it simple with a drapery panel drawn to the side. The crisp white panel has a blue and gray stitching pattern which works perfectly in the space.

I do believe a sophisticated teen would love this bedroom as well as any guest who comes to visit! Looking forward to sharing the rest of the Guest Wing with you soon!
