Homearama 2016: Guest Bedroom
Our next tour stop of Homearama 2016: Guest Bedroom feels like a breath of fresh air. I love designing Guest Bedrooms. I call these “the pretty rooms” because your guests should feel special and welcome in your home.
Color Scheme
For this pretty room, we wanted a light, airy feel so we did some role reversal with our paint colors. A neutral White Heron (SW7627) was painted on the walls and a pop of color was painted on the ceiling and partially down the wall with Austere Gray (SW6148). We added molding to separate the two and aligned it with the detailed molding at the top of the windows and doors. We finished off the ceiling with this precious chandelier in a whitewash finish.
Furniture Sizing
The room is not particularly large so we needed to be very selective in the furniture pieces we included. I love this four poster bed with fabric headboard – what a great combo! We dressed the bed with neutral bedding with a hint of green. The painted nightstand with its decorative open base is perfect to sit in front of the window. Our favorite nanogram shade tops the lamp and is both the perfect size and finish for the room.
The Statement Piece
Across from the bed, we added one of my favorite furniture pieces – an oversized hand painted dresser in a Greek Key motif and birds – another great combo! The 3 large drawers are perfect for storing extra blankets and pillows and even robes for your guests. We accessorized with large pots filled with blossoming branches, a decorative tray in a metal finish, and a set of rustic mirrors.
Enlarging the Space
In the corner next to the bed, we added this fabulous floor mirror on a metal stand with a floor lamp for additional light. The mirror really enlarges the space.
Finishing Touches
For finishing touches, we added a decorative valance mounted inside the window, a leather and jute rug underneath the bed which will be soft underfoot as guests awake, and colorful artwork which truly pops off the linen color walls.
This Homearama 2016: Guest Bedroom is one “pretty room” if I do say so myself! Be sure to check out these other pretty rooms here and here. Enjoy!
