2019 Design Trends: Fabrics + Finishes

In our last post on 2019 Design Trends in Color, we talked about menswear and warm neutrals.  Well, don’t forget about Plaids! We are happy to see that this classic menswear pattern is coming back in full force – especially with this wallpaper in a nice, warm neutral.

A little tub chair is a perfect piece of upholstery to add your plaid to!  Check out this full project to see the coordinating fabrics used with it.

In this home study, we layered plaid on plaid – this beautiful wool-like panel paired with our super comfy plaid throw in a lighter color way.

Over the last year or so, we have been noticing a lot of fun, vibrant floral patterns.  This year, we expect to see a lot of sketch-like qualities and free hand style in the mix.

Along the same lines, watercolor florals are so much fun!  This pattern has a soft background in our blush and gray neutrals but with lots of fun color to add contrast!

Oxidized Oak

At October Market, we saw some gorgeous deep wood tones, including this oxidized oak live edge bench we just got on the showroom floor!  The finish is almost black, but there is such a nice warmth to it that it pairs beautifully with our soft putty, teal, and soft blue palette.

Wabi-Sabi is the last, and by far the most impactful design trend we are seeing.  I personally hope this joins the ranks of the classics list.  Wabi-sabi is a concept in Japanese aesthetics that see’s beauty as “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete” or rather “nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect”.  I just love that.  Think of the way something has character when it is a bit misshapen.  Or the way a material changes over time.

See how the edges come together revealing the seams on these copper bowls?  The color varies from bowl to bowl. The wobbly top of this blue vase pictured below?  It adds a nice, human touch to it.

Although I hope you can look at your home with more appreciation, knowing nothing will ever be perfect or complete, we hope you will still swing by and see us.  And as always – trend lightly!
